Difficult Person
J.B. Asked: I have a situation where I have someone in my life that will not help around the house. Will not work. Will not clean. Using A Course in Miracles, O.E. how would it teach about this situation?
A Course in Miracles teaches that our perceptions and beliefs shape our experience of reality, and that by changing our thoughts and attitudes, we can change the events and circumstances of our lives. In the case of a situation where someone is not willing to help around the house or contribute to the household in other ways, the Course might offer the following guidance:
Recognize your own thoughts and beliefs: The first step in dealing with any situation is to become aware of your own thoughts and beliefs about it. Are you feeling angry, frustrated, or resentful towards the person who is not helping? Are you blaming them for your own unhappiness or stress? Are you harboring any negative judgments or attitudes towards them? By becoming aware of your own thoughts and beliefs, you can begin to shift your perception and create space for a more positive and loving approach.
Practice forgiveness: A key teaching of the Course is forgiveness, which means letting go of grievances and judgments and choosing to see others and ourselves with love and compassion. Instead of focusing on the other person's lack of contribution, try to practice forgiveness and see them as a spiritual being who is simply struggling with their own challenges and limitations. This does not mean condoning their behavior or allowing them to take advantage of you, but rather, approaching the situation with an open heart and a willingness to see beyond the surface level of appearances.
Focus on your own happiness: Rather than relying on others to make you happy or fulfill your needs, the Course teaches that true happiness comes from within. Focus on cultivating your own sense of peace, joy, and well-being, regardless of the actions or attitudes of others. This may involve setting boundaries, taking time for self-care, or engaging in activities that bring you pleasure and fulfillment.
Ask for guidance: Finally, the Course teaches that we are not alone and that we can always turn to the divine for guidance and support. If you are struggling with a difficult situation, ask for guidance and clarity, and trust that the answers will come in the form that is best for your spiritual growth and well-being.
Overall, the Course teaches that every situation and every relationship is an opportunity for spiritual growth and transformation, and that by changing our thoughts and attitudes, we can create a more positive and loving experience for ourselves and others.
